Emerging Artists Dortmund has been conceptualised as a biennal for artists from Dortmund in 2015. After its successful start, 2017 is about attracting attention to excellent artists and creative workers from Dortmund as well, to actively interconnect them, to supply them with the necessary tools for development as well as to work professionally and successful.
Rahmenprogramm
Active networking and opportunities for professionalization are at the forefront of the comprehensive accompanying program. With free guided tours, artist talks, lectures, workshops and seminars, this offers the opportunity to deal with the challenges of artistic and creative fields of work. The broad topic of self-employment is treated as well as funding opportunities or strategies for the use of social media and the creation of websites.
The ever-growing scene of artists, graphic designers, scenographers and other creative crafts more and more transformed Dortmund into a cultural melting pot. Therefore, not only the graphic design and the scenography, but also the photographic documentation and the communications program were developed in collaboration with students and graduates of the local universities:
Graphic Design
Patrick Kochne und Benedict Graf (graduates communication design, FH DO)
Scenography
Lena Wesholowski und Simone Wanzke (graduates scenography and communications, FH DO)
Photography
Mareile Zimmermann formerly Vaags and Marsha Zeitheim (students art & art science, TU DO)
Communications Program
Students from the seminar „Bildung und Kommunikation“ by PD Dr. Jürgen Stiller at the TU Dortmund
From all applications for an open call, an international jury chose the artists that exhibited their works at the UZWEI at the Dortmunder U from 16 September until 12 November 2017:
For the first time, Emerging Artists Dortmund becomes interconnected on an international level: smARTplaces, a project by the EU at the Dortmunder U asks for new types of contemporary digital culture work. Emerging Artists cooperates with the Van Abbemuseum in Eindhoven, NL and the WIELS in Brussels, BE within the frameworks of smARTplaces. The exhibition will also show an artist from the Netherlands.
Partners from the Netherlands and Belgium took part in the online judging already. At the same time, they will add a new building block to the portfolio consultation and the use of social media in the art sector along with an European dimension.
smARTplaces Special Guest: Giuditta Vendrame
